One-day Art Tour of Tijuana in conjunction with our PST exhibition The US-Mexico Border: Place, Imagination, Possibility. Led by independent curator Karla Aguiñiga, the trip will leave from San Diego and includes travel to Valle de Guadalupe, an emerging vineyard and culinary marvel for a tour and lunch with architect Alejandro D'Acosta. Our participants will also visit and discuss the site of the controversial border wall, meet special guests and enjoy an artist studio tour.

Strong and Versatile: Japanese Handmade Paper and Paper Thread Talk and Demonstration with Hiroko Karuno

Master spinner, dyer, and weaver Hiroko Karuno presents a slide lecture on the process of washi (Japanese handmade paper) making. She will demonstrate the intricate method of producing kami-ito (paper thread) from a sheet of washi and how to prepare it for weaving.

Master Class with Hiroko Karuno: Making Paper Thread


Sunday, July 30 | 12:00–6:00pm

Learn the uniquely detailed method of making kami-ito from a sheet of washi. In this hands-on workshop, Hiroko Karuno leads participants with step-by-step instruction on folding the paper to spinning the paper with a drop-spindle. Space is limited to 10 participants who have experience with spinning and weaving.
